Op. 09: The Koechlin Collection

Op. 09: The Koechlin Collection

Op. 09: The Koechlin Collection is a collection of works originally composed by Charles Koechlin, a French composer who lived from 1867 – 1950. Listening to Koechlin’s works, it is easy to mistake the style and construction for those of a twentieth or twenty-first century composer.

All the Koechlin pieces are in the public domain, so the composer transcribed a broad range of these pieces for cello and piano. The compositions include (1) a Basson Sonata (Op. 71), a Cello Sonata (Op. 66), 14 Flute pieces (Op. 157, Nos. 1-14), a Horn Sonata (Op. 70), an Oboe Sonata (Op. 58), 12 Piano Preludes (Op. 209, Nos. 1-12). Each piece is transcribed for the intermediate cellist. In many instances, a “Redux” version is included, with limited technical demand and length.

A All the pieces in Op. 09: The Koechlin Collection are available as cello parts and cello/piano scores, in PDF format. Recordings of the piano parts for the initial transcriptions and the Redux versions are available as MP3s, upon request.
