Op. 05 Classic Pride Collection
The Opus 05 Classic Pride Collection began as a piece to celebrate the efforts of GLBT composers who create musical works that affirm GLBT lives, loves, and communities. The original piece (Op. 5 No. 01) was composed and arranged for, and performed by, an SATB mixed chorus that included GLBT singers and their straight allies. No lyrics are included, because the choral parts are intended to be sung in open tones (e.g. oohs, aahs, etc.).
Eventually, the collection came to include various arrangements of the original thematic material. The completed collection includes a Prelude (Op. 05 No. 02) originally conceived for tuba and piano, but later transcribed for Trumpet (Op. 05 No. 3), French Horn (Op. 05 No. 4), and Flute Op. 05 No. 5) and piano. Op. 05 No. 06 is a hybrid work, merging the original SATB choral parts and the flute part from the Op. 05 No. 05 Prelude. In 2001, the original Class Pride theme was re-worked into an upbeat, synthesized arrangement as part of the Op. 02 Rhythmic Voices 4: Fantasy Voices collection (Op. 02, Rhythmic Voices 4, No. 03).
All the pieces in the Op. 05: Classic Pride Collection are available as cello parts and cello/piano scores, in PDF format. Recordings of the piano parts for the initial transcriptions and the Redux versions are available as MP3s, upon request.
